Poem: “Purple” Maggie Boyle

Purple is innocent –
untitled emotions kept from childhoods
redressed as the color on your fingernails.
Purple is a flame
licking wounds
earned in combat.

Purple is the color that soothes
unattainable memories
reminiscent of a Great Big Happiness.
Purple pops with the pressure of lips pursing –
loving – without speaking; Keeping
energy in the mix.

Purple is rage and beauty –
Unpromises and promises kept.
Rage against the dying – against the color in my face after
purple touches me.
Lucid – I dream, purple paints my vision clear.
Eyes, purple from pleading: “Leave everything!”
